Nutrition Step 3 - Eat Whole and Natural
One way of introducing whole and natural foods into your daily diet is by including many of the Detox Diet principles into your daily living.
There are many different detox Diets on the market at the moment, and they seem to be becoming more and more popular. However, most of the detox diets have the same underlying principles. These principles are:
- Eat Fresh: Eat all foods as fresh as possible
- Eat Raw and lightly cooked foods: Try to eat much of your food raw or lightly cooked, especially vegetables, as this helps preserve their nutritional content.
- Eat whole and natural: Make the majority of your food choices from unprocessed, unrefined foods and those that are without artificial additives.
- Drink Plenty of water: It is recommended that on most detox diets that you drink around 1.75 litres or 3 pints of water or non-duritec fluids throughout the day.
- Include detox super foods into your diet: Include these natural cleansers into you daily food choices.
If you are trying to kick-start yourself into a health eating plan, the detox diet can be a great help. For example the purpose of the detox diet is to cleanse your bodily system, helping to eliminate all the impurities that have built up in your body over time. The detox diet can also help:
- Increase your energy levels
- Improve your complexion and the quality of your hair
- Help relieve the frequency of headaches
- Improve concentration
- Relieve mild depression
- Aid sleep patterns, and much more.
However, one of the greatest benefits I feel, is that it makes you take an interest in the types of foods that you consume and what effects they can actually have on your body.
Having the odd cake or chocolate bar shouldn't be considered to be naughty or a sin! But it is great to know what effects they have on the body (e.g. providing an insulin spike in your bloodstream) and what different choices there are to have instead, that may provide better effects on the body.
The detox diet for what ever period you choose (from 5 days plus) can be a great way to cleanse your system to start with, helping you feel healthier, so that you feel better about maintaining some of it basic principles throughout 85-90% of your normal daily routine.
