What is Sports and Remedial massage?
Massage is a natural therapy and has been used to treat health problems for thousands of years. It is also one of the original core skills of physiotherapy. Sports and remedial massage can have great benefits on both physical and psychological aspects of the body, but it's main purpose is to work on the musculoskeletal system (muscles of the body).

The main purpose of remedial and sports massage is to relieve minor injury to the body. This is achieved by working directly on tight muscular areas of the skeletal system to relieving built up tension.

A majority of injuries are caused by an imbalance in the body. When one muscle group becomes tight, all be it from sport or every day life; another muscle group becomes over stretched, therefore creating an imbalance in the skeleton. If this imbalance is prolonged the body may develop pain.

Sports and Remedial massage can:

  • Relieve back pain, joint pain and muscular tension
  • Relieve headaches and neck ache
  • Relieve sciatica and tendonitis
  • Relieve stress and mild depression
Sports massage therapy can also:
  • Relieve injuries to the joints and muscles.
  • Help prevent injury occurring when we lead busy lives
These benefits occur through:
  • Relaxation of tense muscle groups
  • Improved circulation
  • Breakdown internal scare tissue, and increased muscle flexibility
What is therapeutic body massage?
Body massage uses similar techniques as Remedial and Sports massage; however, the pressure applied to the body by the therapist is much lighter. The massage moves used are also put into a routine designed to promote physical and mental relaxation in the mind and body.
